From August 1, smoking will be prohibited in two Shreveport, USA facilities.
A request to exempt the Shreveport casino from a public smoking ban issued by the city council has been postponed. If the plans remain the same, the smoking ban will come into force on August 1.
Two casinos will be banned: Sam’s Town and El Dorado.
The amendment proposed by City councilman James Flurry was discussed at a meeting of the city council. In the initial vote, the decision to allow smoking in the casino won four to three. However, after further discussions and negotiations in the group “Americans for the Rights of Non-Smokers”, the issue was postponed.
This discussion comes after Resolution No. 51, the Law on the prohibition of Smoking in the Air, which was adopted in June 2020. The law establishes a ban on smoking in bars, casinos and gaming establishments from August 1. Initially, the law was supposed to come into force. in August 2020, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
City councilman Flurry opposes banning smoking in Shreveport casinos, because he believes that it will cost the city’s business and, in turn, jobs. He claimed that the regulars would rather gamble in nearby Bossier City than comply with the smoking ban.
However, Reagan Carter, a representative of the organization” Free from tobacco smoke ” of Louisiana, did not agree with the assumption that the ban on smoking reduces income, calling this statement “insidious and insensitive.”
She added: “Competitive smoke-free gaming establishments across America are attracting new customers and finding that their employees have become healthier and happier since the clean air policy was implemented.”
There are currently 120 non-smoking casinos in the United States. The newly opened Resorts World Las Vegas has a smoking ban on the entire territory, but still allows smoking on the casino floor.
